An outstanding football and track & field athlete at Albany College, Adams was a fullback and tackle on teams of 1925 to 1930. He was one of the biggest and fastest collegiate players in the Pacific Northwest. In track, he went undefeated in four years in the high and low hurdles in track while also competing in the javelin, discus, high jump and long jump. At a 1931 meet, he outscored the entire Linfield team, then the reigning Willamette Valley Conference champions.
