Carla McHattie was the first Lewis & Clark women's cross country runner to win a conference championship as an individual. The 2005 champion, McHattie was named Northwest Conference Women's Athlete of the Year and All-NWC First Team. That season, she earned four NWC Runner of the Week awards and the team was second at the NWC Championships, their highest finish since 1978. She had seven top-10 finishes in 2005, winning four events while also setting a course and meet record at two separate races. She was an All-West Region winner in 2004. As a track and field competitor, McHattie set school records in the 800 and 1,500 meters, the former still standing as of her induction. She ranked in the top 20 in the 400-meter hurdles, 5K, heptathlon and was part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team. During her senior season, she won three individual NWC Championships event titles.
Carla currently resides in Portland, Ore. with her husband, Logan Mercer. Logan is also a fellow Lewis & Clark alumnus and previous member of the cross country and track and field teams. They have been married for over five years. Carla is currently working as a creative professional in the fitness and lifestyle industry. She previously worked with Nike, barre3, LEGO and REI. Carla enjoys the pleasures of making art and still runs whenever she can.
