A member of back-to-back conference championship teams, Dean Soule was an All-American guard for the Lewis & Clark football team from 1954-55 under head coach Joe Huston. A transfer to the program, Soule helped on the offensive line that led the Pioneers to an 8-2 record in 1954, claiming the conference championship with a 4-1 record. Lewis & Clark equaled that mark in 1955, with a 6-2 overall record, but lost its last game unexpectedly to finish in a tie with College of Idaho for the conference championship. That season, Soule earned a First-Team All-Conference selection as well as the All-American nod.
