A four-time NAIA All-American in the middle distances in track & field, Aaberg finished in the top four all four years in races at the NAIA National Championships. He placed fourth in the 880 in 1963, second in the 800 in 1964, second in the mile in 1965, and fourth in the mile in 1966. He was a two-time NWC champion in the 880 and once in the mile. He set the L&C school records in the mile (4:12.00) in 1966 and 800 meters (1:50.00) in 1964. He was also a two-year starter at fullback for the Pioneer football team.
