Flippin is a four-year starter at halfback on the football team, averaging 6.1 yards per carry for his career, rushing for 1,731 yards, and leading the team in rushing in 1956. He led the Northwest Conference in scoring in 1954 with 58 points, and recorded a total 171 career points including 19 touchdowns, 51 conversions and two field goals. A three-time All-NWC player, he earned First-Team UPI All-Coast honors as a senior, and Second-Team as a junior. He was also a four-year letterman outfielder in baseball.
