In two years of intercollegiate wrestling, Weight was defeated only once, that match being for the national championship his freshman year. As a sophomore, he was undefeated in 29 matches and went on to win the NAIA National Heavyweight Championship. In the national tournament, he gave up only two points while winning five matches. A shoulder injury at the start of his junior year ended the career of the two-time All-American.
