A four-year letter winner and starter in football, Reed was one of the top punters in the NWC in the 1970’s. A member of the NWC All-Conference team in 1977 and 1978, he was Honorable Mention All-American in 1977 and a Second-Team All-American in 1978. He was also a member of the 1976 track and field team which won the NWC championship. At time of induction, he held the freshman javelin record of 237-8 and is number two on the all-time throws list.
