McBratney participated in five sports and was Lewis & Clark’s first women’s four-year award winner while competing in volleyball and basketball. She captained the 1973 volleyball team that won the NCWSC regional title, the first-ever L&C women’s championship, was MVP on the basketball team as a senior, and set school records in the long jump, 220, and 440 in track & field. She also competed in softball and field hockey.
McBratney currently resides in San Diego, Calif. She started working in the property and casualty insurance industry. She spent 25 years with Farmers Insurance Group and four years in the life insurance industry. McBratney continued playing competitive volleyball after college in the Open and Senior division of USVBA. Her best team finish was second at a national tournament. She was selected Senior All-American three times. She retired in 2009, and now spends her time golfing, deep sea fishing, traveling, and volunteering at the San Diego Humane Society.
