Fanger was selected an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American in 1989 at quarterback, All-Conference in 1988 and 1989, and the Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 1989. He set L&C career records for total offense (6,075), passing (6,013), touchdown passes (52) and completion percentage (.615), as well as season records for single game passing (540), touchdown passes (28) and completion percentage (.679). Three times, he passed for six touchdowns in a game. He was selected the L&C Male Athlete of the Year in 1989-90
