Gano is a four-year letterman in football. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American and earned UPI All-Coast honors as a sophomore, was a three-time First-Team All-Northwest Conference halfback, a three-time Little All-Northwest selection, and set the L&C rushing record of 1,075 yards in 1971. He led the team in rushing three seasons, including his junior year when he played in only five games. As a senior he was a starter on offense and defense and returned punts and kickoffs. With a 33-game career total of 2,273 yards rushing, he was also a sprinter and threw the javelin in track and field.

He started his work life as a teacher and coach in Redmond, Ore., and in 1980 began working in insurance. Gano has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to hold leadership positions in both national and regional insurance brokerage firms over the years, and is currently a shareholder and Managing Partner in The Partners Group, a Portland based company. He enjoys running, biking, hiking, and reading, and he and his wife enjoy movies, traveling, and supporting their daughters in their various endeavors. Gano says it was an honor to have played at LC, and will always treasure the life-long friendships that developed during his years on campus.
