Fergeson was an All-American in the 110 meter high hurdles, a four-time NAIA District 2 and three-time Northwest Conference champion in high hurdles, set the district meet record, and lost only three races in four years in that event. He also won the NWC 400 meter hurdles in 1977, setting a conference record, and set school records of 14.0 and 52.2 in 110 and 400 hurdles respectively. He scored 58 1/2 points while placing in nine events in conference meets during his career.
