Hergert earned 11 varsity letters across three sports: four football, four baseball, and three basketball. A four-year starter at defensive back, he is a member of the 1963 Hall of Fame team. As a second baseman, he was selected First-Team All-Northwest Conference four times and was selected to the NAIA All-District team three times. A starting guard and captain on the 1963-64 basketball team, his basketball teams won Conference and District championships in 1962, 1963, and 1964.
After graduating from L&C in 1965, Hergert attended the Lewis & Clark Law School, graduating in 1969. He began practicing law soon after. He met his wife, LeAnn Cox, while singing with the New Oregon Singers in the '70s. In 1992, he started Hergert & Associates, and in addition to practicing law, Hergert served as a Pro-Tem Judge in the Clackamas County Family Law court from 1990 to 2010. He is survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.
