A 4-year letterwinner in baseball, Russel was twice named to the All-Conference and All-District list. He is the L&C season record holder for hits (65) and RBI (59), and the career leader in hits (181), doubles (43) and RBI (157). He batted .433 in Conference play his senior year and a member of the 1990 NAIA District 2 (batted .476 in tournament) and Area 1 championship team. He started as first baseman on L&C 1990 NAIA World Series team.
Russell is currently residing in Denver, Colo. with his wife Kristin and two children, Lauren and Haley. Russell is an executive at CenturyLink. He is active in many community volunteer initiatives holding positions on the Denver Public Schools Foundation, University of Colorado Business Advisory Board, and Public Education and Business Coalition. Russell enjoys spending his free time skiing and cycling.
