Jones won 12 gold medals in the Northwest Conference and NAIA District competition in track and field over four years. Twice he competed in the NAIA National Championships meet, finishing fifth in the 800 as a senior. He was the NWC and District 2 440 champion as a sophomore and 880 champion in both meets as a junior and senior. His personal bests are 48.4 in the 400 meters and 1:50.6 in the 800, and he ran on the 1965 4x400 meter relay that set L&C record of 3:17.00. He is a member of three NWC and four district championship teams.
Jones has a long-standing relationship with Lewis & Clark; his father graduated from L&C after WWII. Jones graduated in 1968, meanwhile his wife and daughter both received their masters degrees at L&C. Jones has served on the College's faculty for 40 years.
